About Us

Makikihi Country Hotel is a newly refurbished hotel in State Highway 1 in Makihihi, just North of Waimate.

The hotel was built in 1929 and we are currently restoring to its former glory. We can accommodate up to 15 people with a selection of single and double rooms. Guests have the choice of continental or cooked breakfasts served in our recently redecorated dining room.

Our restaurant and bar feature tasty and traditional Kiwi country food – open to all! We offer an al a carte menu, bar menu and takeaway options at affordable prices.

Off-street secure parking is available for cars and heavy vehicles. We can also cater for travelling pets with dog kennels and a 1/2 acre of pasture.

We are within reach of stunning Central-Otago, Queenstown, Wanaka and the Lake District - not to mention the scenic route through to Mt Cook! We are at the centre of it all!

We are just a few minutes from the stunning East Coast and its golden beaches. In between Timaru and Waimate, you are within easy reach of the events, attractions and conveniences they offer – but far enough away that you can get away from it all!
