The phrase ‘Smile Makeover’ is a popular term these days. Whether on TV or in the latest fashion magazine, you’ll likely hear about the “life changing” effects of a person’s smile makeover. One popular technique used in smile makeovers is teeth whitening. Staining caused by nicotine, tetracycline, fluorosis (the medical name for the white streaks caused by too much fluoride during tooth development), age and even some foods
(black coffee, red wine, etc) can be safely and successfully removed with bleaching. There are several methods available to whiten teeth and individuals should always consult with a Dentist before going ahead
with any of these. Although effective ford adjusting tooth colour, teeth whitening is not effective in correcting other possible dental deficiencies. Crowns and veneers provide structural support whilst also achieving a beautiful, even smile. Colours and shades can be matched to pre-existing teeth. In some cases a combination of bleaching existing front teeth and matching the crown or veneer to the newly bleached teeth provide the perfect solution. In all cases, remember to choose a shade no lighter/
whiter than the whites of your eyes, or your smile won’t look natural.
Losing a tooth due to accident or trauma can be both embarrassing and problematic. Leaving the tooth space empty may not sound too serious, but the consequences of not filling in the gap can include:
•The adjacent teeth can tilt or collapse into the space
•More pressure and stress on your remaining teeth
•The tooth opposing the space has nothing to bite down on, so chewing becomes less effective
•The loss of your missing tooth’s root can cause your jawbone to shrink, making your face appear prematurely older
•A missing tooth in the front of your mouth can affect your smile and your self-confidence.
•In the past, partial dentures and bridges were the only option.
But now, in most situations, a dental implant is the most effective solution for replacing a missing tooth/teeth. A titanium screw is inserted into the jawbone where it integrates over time with the jaw itself. An all-ceramic crown or bridge, secured to a dental implant, provides a complete and
beautiful solution for improving your smile. A dental implant takes the place of the missing tooth’s root and helps prevent the above consequences. For denture wearers who have loose or unstable dentures due to lack of retention, implants can anchor those dentures using
a clip or screw system.
